I think from Shannon to Galway I must have fell asleep 5 times on the bus, so once in town I bought a phone from O2 and went to my hostel (pictured) and after 36 hours being up I passed out in seconds! After staying at this hostel I’m actually really quit sad that I hadn’t tried one before, it was 1/3rd or less the price of a B&B and I’ve stayed at worse B&B’s. I was looking forward to some Irish breakfast with black pudding, but no such luck since breakfast was free at the hostel, I'll try some soon I hope! I had some interesting roommates from Chicago, Lauren & Mark who invited me out but I had other plans.
That night I went out to meet my beautiful Galwegian tour guide, Susan (pictured). We had dinner at mustard, which was in a building (pictured) that used to be a mill and were seated right by the still running mill wheel and water outlet. After a really good dinner & chat we decided to go out for drinks and went to my old favorite, Sheridan by the docks but it was too loud & busy so we went to Susan’s pick not far away & new to me.
There we ran into her brother-in-law 'Silly' and his 2 friends. Apparently she had unknowingly blown off her sister and a wedding photo viewing with the girls to go out, so it was awkward for her when Silly showed up. They were nice guys though and it was a good night. I got some great advice to buy a bottle of buckfast which is some fetid wine of sorts which I picture like maddog 20/20 from what one described, and I actually looked for in the store but didn’t see. Silly was a bit tipsy or no maybe just drunk and seemed under the very strong opinion that the one thing I need to do on my entire trip was to kiss a Galway Girl. Which I may never get to know what that is like, but it did remind me of the song “Galway Girl”:
“I've travelled around I've been all over this world
Boys I ain't never seen nothin' like a Galway girl “
